Stadsmuseum Rhenen – Jan van Goyen
Sounds heard by the master
How did the banks of the Rhine sound more than 350 years ago?
What did Jan van Goyen hear while painting the work 'View of Rhenen'?
For Stadsmuseum Rhenen we created a soundscape with these questions in the back of our mind. Visitors can listen to it while admiring the actual painting 'View of Rhenen'. The soundscape consists of sounds that Jan van Goyen might have heard while painting the work.
Next to being involved in the creative side of the project, we also advised on the technical setup and we installed the hardware.
The installation was created as part of a crowdfunding campaign to purchase the painting. This has led to Stadsmuseum Rhenen being able to actually purchase the work. Now it can be admired permanently in the museum, together with the soundscape.
