Ster radio rebranding

One brand, one sound

In 2014 we created a new sonic identity for Ster, which has been broadcast ever since on radio stations of the Dutch broadcast organisation NPO. Seven years later Ster asked us to refresh the current sonic identity, so we went back to the drawing board. Our assignment: an even clearer sonic profile of Ster as a brand - one sound for all radio stations, fitting every situation. A clearer link with their television outings. And an important condition: the word Ster had to be pronounced in the sonic identity to reinforce Ster as a brand.

We submerged in a world of nuances - there were many factors to take into account in this project, and not all of them were easily combined. For example: how to make sure the sonic branding was the same for every station, while still maintaining a good match with the different styles of each of these stations?
And how to secure the name Ster in the sonic identity, without making it feel enforced and too much detracting from the overall feel of the audio?

The result is now live on all NPO radio stations!
